A fairy-tale story that came true thanks to their strong performance in preschool. That’s how the trip unfolded for the children—from every region of Chile—who visited England in January of this year after winning the “Haz que Despeguen” contest organized by the Oportunidad Educational Foundation.
This entire experience was documented in an episode showing the children visiting the National Space Centre in Leicester. There, they took part in interactive activities, explored exhibits about the universe, and gained a hands-on understanding of the work astronauts do.
Throughout the episode, actress Loreto Aravena—the host of the adventure—shared her reactions, insights, and emotions. This highlights the impact that such experiences have during the early stages of development, as they spark curiosity and a desire to learn.
The content also covers their time in London, where they visited iconic landmarks in the British capital. It incorporates cultural and heritage elements that broaden the educational experience beyond the scientific realm.
The release of this content is part of the campaign's strategy, which uses audiovisual formats to highlight—through real-life experiences—the impact of regularly attending classes.
“It’s deeply moving to relive this experience”
María de la Luz González, executive director of Fundación Educacional Oportunidad, noted that “it’s deeply moving to relive this experience and see once again how the children enjoyed themselves, were amazed, and learned at every moment of the trip. This chapter captures that experience, and we’re sharing it because we want to continue encouraging attendance in early childhood education, showing that going to school opens up real opportunities.”
He added that “the campaign is currently being rolled out in its new version, and in January 2027 it will give new children the chance to enjoy a unique experience at the Kennedy Space Center, from where the Artemis II mission launched.”
“Haz que Despeguen” 2026 is now underway, inviting families to register their children—who are enrolled in lower middle school, upper middle school, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten at public or subsidized private schools—at www.hazquedespeguen.cl.
The challenge is to achieve an attendance rate of 90% or higher during the first semester to win a trip to the United States to visit NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The registration deadline is June 30.
